Dickie Landry - Mass for Pentecost Sunday in Bologna

On the occasion of the G20 of religions, jazz musician and multifaceted artist Dickie Landry brought to Italy for the first time his “ Mass for a Pentecost Sunday”,  commissioned in 1987 by Dominique De Menil for the opening of his art collection, "The Menil Collection" in Houston, where it was premiered at the Rothko Chapel on June 4 of that year.

This film tells the story of a world premiere outside the U.S., but also something about Landry and his country. Dickie Landry's "Cecilia story," from Louisiana to Bologna and back, passing through a library where he rehearsed his Mass for Pentecost Sunday, dedicated to Russ.

Louisiana, the church choir, the twentieth century, the Great Depression, jazz, sax, the Mac, Philip Glass, the concert with Bob Dylan, photos to the great artists of the 1970s, New York, the underground, Moon Dog, painting, toil in the fields; in the background Bologna, where, on Sept. 12, 2021, during the G20 Interfaith forum, Richard "Dickie" Landry presented his “ Mass for Pentecost Sunday”,  commissioned 34 years earlier by Domenique De Menil, on the occasion of the inauguration of his collection, and played within the octagonal walls of Rothko Chapel, in Houston, to arrive, after rehearsals in the library with the choir, at the Convent of San Domenico; always with that very special dedication to Russ.
