Services

The consultation area
Reference works are available in the reading room: lexicons, dictionaries, encyclopedias, bibliographies and large collections. The reference volumes can be brought to the tables by scholars, leaving the duly filled-out request forms in their place. When a user is finished, or at the end of the day, each volume/documentary material must be relocated or, in case of uncertainty, handed over to the counter for relocation by the attendants.

The book deposits
For books that are located outside the reading room, a request must be made to the librarians using the appropriate form duly completed. The user agrees to properly take care of the documentary material taken or obtained for consultation. Those who damage documents are required to immediately buy a replacement or reimburse the library based on the market value of the damaged document, which still remains the property of the Library. The same conditions apply to stolen or lost documents.

Filling out the request form for direct volume withdrawal
The form is divided into 3 parts:

Reference
Librarians provide free public information service, offering bibliographic consultations and assistance in consulting print and online catalogues, including those of other libraries. They will inform users about the databases that they are able to make available to the public and will facilitate effective usage of the library’s databases and information tools. If the information cannot be found in the library, library staff will provide instructions on which other institution can satisfy the request. The library staff will check with the user on the outcome of the request. Bibliographic information and public assistance service is provided throughout the opening hours of the library.

Internet
Internet access service is an integral part of the resources made available to the library. Use of the Internet should adhere to the purposes of research, study and documentation. The service is free of charge and is accessible to all registered users of the library, subject to applicable laws. It is possible to surf the web, consult and download files, read and send e-mail messages. It is not possible to activate telnet sessions, FTP, IRC, connect to social networks, chat, or make Internet phone calls. It is not permitted to enter data and programs on the library PCs; carry out operations that influence or compromise the regular operation of the network or limit its use and performance; alter, remove or damage software and hardware applications and configurations; download non-freeware software. Staff offer basic assistance with the main commands for navigating the Internet and conducting bibliographic searches.

Reproductions

Within the limits set by Italian law and by the European directives on copyright 22.04.1941, n. 633 and subsequent amendments and additions, the reproduction service of the documents held is active.

It is possible to photocopy 15% of the pages of a monograph and a periodical for personal and study use; reproductions from newspapers, books published before 1831, rare and valuable books, works in a precarious state of conservation are, however, permitted only through digital cameras. The library is not responsible for any infringements of current regulations committed by users.

Within the limits permitted by law, by the provisions of the donors and by the internal regulations, it is possible, by agreement with the operators, to photocopy, scan, photograph, transfer audio or video sources from analogue to digital media.

The attending staff can make photocopies or scans at a cost of 0.20 euros each + shipping costs.

Document Delivery
The Document Delivery service is intended to obtain the reproduction of parts of works (max 100 reproductions), in compliance with current regulations regarding copyright, and is provided to both libraries and natural persons even if resident outside the national territory. The provision of the service is carried out within one week of the request and is suspended during the periods when the library is closed. Requests must be sent to the email address biblioteca.lapira@fscire.it.

New acquisitions and purchase suggestions
It is possible to suggest the purchase of volumes by sending your requests via email to biblioteca.lapira@fscire.it.

The documents proposed by readers are purchased in accordance with the nature of the collections, the purposes of the library and the financial availability.

Complaints and suggestions
Scholars can report any inefficiencies encountered or provide suggestions to improve the services provided. Complaints and reports can be forwarded to biblioteca.lapira@fscire.it.

Donations
The library accepts documentary donations from private citizens, organizations and associations. Donors must provide a list of proposed titles. If they wish to give away periodicals, they are asked to list the years and their possible completeness. The library will evaluate the consistency of the material offered with its nature and purposes. If it is not interested in acquiring the material, the library will guide the donor towards other institutions in the area deemed more suitable to receive such donations.

Accessibility
The spaces intended for user access are free of architectural barriers.
